Charlemagne was the King of the Franks. Charlemagne was the son of Pepin the Short. Charlemagne was so famous because he was very tall for a medieval man, he was six feet tall, and the average height for a man was five feet and four inches to five feet and five inches. "Flow of History" states "There were three aspects of Charlemagne's reign that were especially important: his conquests, his attempts to revive Roman culture in what is known as the Carolingian Renaissance, and the revival of the Roman imperial title." Charlemagne ruled a lot of Western Europe throughout his lifetime, which was 768 to 814. He became king of the Franks in 771. Charlemagne's goal was to create a kingdom of united Germanic people and converting them to Christianity. He did this by involving in warfare. He was involved in a three decade long series of gory and bloody battles against the Saxons. Charelmagne was crowned ruler of the Roman by Pope Leo III in 800. When Charlemagne died in 814, he split up the kingdom among his four sons, who fought over power. Charelmagne had the title of Emperor and King because he was King of the Franks and Emperor of Rome.
