Map of the VIking World
Basic Description of the Vikings
The Vikings were seafaring Scandinavian warriors who conquered areas throughout Britain, Ireland, France, and Italy. Although at sea the Vikings were brutish and ferocious, on land they were independent farmers. Clans were made up of energetic members dreaming of adventure and treasures. Their name, Vikings, was earned from the early Scandinavian word "vikingr", meaning "pirate."
VIking Longships
"Longships were sea vessels made and used by the Vikings from the Nordic countries for trade, commerce, exploration, and warfare during the Viking Age although scientific analysis of the oak timber shows at least one well known ship was built in Dublin, Ireland."
