WHy Was Otto the Great Crowned "Holy Roman EMperor?"
After Otto I defeated the Magyars in 955 during the Battle of Lechfield, he was crowned "Holy Roman Emperor." But why? The Magyars did not believe in Christ, and when Otto I defeated them, the Pope was very pleased and Otto the Great was crowned emperor.

Arguments Over the Title of Emperor
After power was given to Otto I, power of the Holy Roman Empire was no longer in control of the Pope. Arguments ensued over who should have power. The Popes were upset because they no longer had power or money.
